The Second Battle Group is one of the UK's longest established WWII Re-enactment & Historical Societies. Formed in 1978, they portray Waffen - SS Grenadiers of the 1. SS. Pz. Div. " Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler ", which was the elite division of the German army formed from Adolf Hitlers personal Bodyguard. This divison was chosen by them because the LAH fought on every major front in WWII ( excluding North Africa ) making their participation at any European WWII theatre re-enactment historically correct. They do not aim to glorify war or the Nazi Regime but aim to portray the fighting German Waffen SS soldier of WWII as accurately as possible.
Their uniforms and weapons cover the period 1933 - 1945 although they concentrate mainly on the Normandy ' 44 period. Correct WW II German marching and combat techniques are taught to all members. The group has a world wide membership of 160 members and has appeared in numerous television and films including Steven Spielberg's movie. "Saving Private Ryan".
As well as a Half track, they also own an original WWII Opel Blitz truck and other vehicles owned by members including a WWII German Ford truck, Mercedes radio truck, a Kubewagen and numerous motor cycles and combinations.
